Open source CRM firm targets Oracle customers

Customers using Oracle 9i will now be able to use SugarCRM's latest application.

SugarCRM is offering support for the Oracle 9i database in the latest edition of its open source CRM product, Sugar Enterprise Edition.

The previous edition of SugarCRM, Sugar Professional, could only be used with the open source MySQL database. Sugar Enterprise Edition, which was launched on Monday, offers support for Oracle 9i as well as MySQL, giving companies with Oracle installations the option of an open source CRM product. Many proprietary CRM products already work with the Oracle database, as well as other proprietary databases.

Other features in Sugar Enterprise Edition include an offline client, which will automatically synchronise changes made to CRM data when the user connects to the Internet after they make them offline, and advanced reporting facilities.

SugarCRM claims that more than 250 companies have purchased Sugar Professional since it launched last September, and that the open source version has been downloaded more than 260,000 times.
