Sensex hits new peak

Mumbai, Aug. 18: The sensex today turned weak after touching 7921.39 on the Bombay Stock Exchange due to heavy selling and ended 48.20 points lower at 7811.33. It opened higher at 7902.84 against the previous close of 7859.53. The initial firmness was because of hectic buying by foreign institutional investors (FIIs) and good growth expectations.


Google shares
New York, Aug. 18:
Google today said it had plans to sell more than 14 million shares in a secondary offering that could raise $4 billion dollars. The Internet search giant had gone public a year ago. Google has given underwriters the right to purchase up to an additional 600,000 shares to cover over-allotments. Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse First Boston and Allen and Co are leading the underwriting.


Hinduja TMT
Mumbai, Aug. 18:
Hinduja TMT has acquired a Bangalore-based call centre, Immaculate Interactions Ltd, for an undisclosed sum. Immaculate specialises in outbound and telemarketing operations.


Sun Pharma
New Delhi, Aug. 18:
The board of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries today took on record the order of Gujarat High Court for merger of Phlox Pharmaceuticals with the company with effect from March 1, 2004.


WTO talks
New Delhi, Aug. 18:
The WTO negotiations on trade facilitation must address concerns of exporters in developing countries, commerce minister Kamal Nath said.
